Mario Salazar
Mario is a holder of a Degree in Aquaculture from the University of San Carlos of Guatemala and has a Masters in Management of Natural Resources and Environment from the University of Cadiz in Spain. His Master’s thesis was focused on "Applications of renewable energy in hydrobiological activities in Guatemala. Mario is currently pursuing another Masters in "Local Environmental Management" at the Faculty of Agronomy of the University of San Carlos of Guatemala.
He has garnered professional experience of 12 years centred on research and use of natural resources, including ecology, biodiversity, fisheries, aquaculture; assessment of coastal environments with vegetation (mangroves, sea grasses, micro and macro-algae) and coral reefs. He has also worked on development and implementation of management plans for protected areas and waste management in beaches by recovery of materials. Mario has worked as a researcher in the Government of Guatemala, private companies and the University of San Carlos of Guatemala, as well as NGOs in Guatemala and Honduras.
Mario has had exposure regionally and internationally, having participated in meetings on management, use and conservation of natural resources and the environment. He is fluent in Spanish and English and has teaching experience at university level in education and training for professionals in the environmental area, waste management and utilization focused on sustainable management of materials.
