Scott Johnson
Scott is a Biologist and Education Officer at the Bahamas National Trust. He attended the College of the Bahamas (COB), where he studied Biology with Chemistry and during his time there, worked a lab technician for the biology lab.
It was during this time at COB that he heard about the Kirtland's Warbler Research and Training Project, a project that taught aspiring biology students about birds, ecosystems, and scientific data collection. Scott was fortunate to spend two seasons on the project as a research assistant and was rewarded with a scholarship to attend St. Mary's College in Maryland to complete his undergraduate studies. Upon completion, he came back home and was offered a job as an Education Officer at The Bahamas National Trust.
Since then, he has participated in Andros Rock Iguana research with SHEDD Aquarium of Chicago, assisted in banding Caribbean Flamingoes on Great Inagua, worked with Island Conservation and assisted in the removal of invasive mice on Allan's Cay (a cay in Exuma, Bahamas) in an effort to decrease predation on Audubon Shearwater birds by Barn Owls. I have been published in two journals: International Reptile Conservation Foundation (IRCF) Journal for Reptiles and Amphibians, and the Wilson's Journal of Ornithology. Scott is the current chairman of the Media Working Group of Birds Caribbean.
Scott’s aim is to pursue a Doctorate in Biology, specializing in birds and reptiles of the Bahamas.
